About this sector

Centurion in leisure centres

Leisure centres operate across wet and dry zones, sports halls, changing areas and poolside environments - each presenting different detection and access requirements. Public-facing sites with high footfall carry statutory fire safety obligations under the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order, alongside GDPR requirements for CCTV in common areas.

Centurion has designed and maintained fire and security systems in leisure centres, gyms and community sports facilities for over a decade. Our engineers understand the split between public access areas and staff-only or plantroom zones, and work with facilities teams on system design that reflects the actual operational map of a site.

Our engineers work around public timetables and schedule installation or maintenance out of hours to avoid disruption to members and sessions. Every site survey maps zones separately - pools, halls, gyms and external areas - before any system is specified.

Why this sector is different

The challenges we solve

02

Public Safety Hours

Leisure centres operate across early morning to late evening. Systems must perform reliably across all sessions, and maintenance is scheduled to avoid disrupting members or classes.

03

Vulnerable Users

Sites serving children, elderly users and supervised activity groups require careful evacuation design. Disabled refuge alarms are specified where required by building regulations.

04

Out-of-Hours Security

Empty leisure centres overnight are a target for break-ins and vandalism. Monitored intruder alarms and CCTV provide a verified response without on-site staffing costs.

05

Local Authority Reporting

Local authority contracts and insurance requirements demand audit-ready compliance records. Centurion produces and maintains full PPM documentation and service histories.

Common questions

Leisure Centres sector FAQs

We answer the questions leisure centre facilities managers ask us most. Can't find what you need? Call 0800 590 592.

Can you install fire alarms in pool and wet areas?
Yes. Centurion specifies fire detection suited to wet, humid and chemically challenging environments including pool halls and changing areas. Systems are designed to BS 5839-1 with detection heads rated for the zone. A full site survey maps each area before specification.
Can you work outside public opening hours?
Yes. We schedule installation and maintenance around your opening hours. Most intrusive work is carried out early morning, late evening or during planned closure periods. This applies to fire alarm servicing, access control installation and CCTV commissioning.
Can you support local authority reporting and compliance records?
Yes. Centurion produces full PPM records, service reports and compliance documentation to support local authority audit requirements. All maintenance is logged against your system. Records are available to your facilities team on request.
Do you cover CCTV for public areas and car parks?
Yes. We design CCTV systems to BS EN 62676 covering reception, public access areas, perimeter and car parks. GDPR-compliant recording and signage requirements are built into the specification. Remote monitoring options are available for out-of-hours cover.
What accreditations does Centurion hold for leisure sector work?
Centurion is NSI Gold accredited across fire alarms, CCTV, intruder alarms and access control - all four disciplines. We are also BAFE registered for fire-related scope and a Paxton Gold Partner for access control systems.
Can you install access control across member and staff zones?
Yes. We design access control systems that separate public access zones from staff areas, plant rooms and restricted areas. Centurion installs commercial systems including Paxton that support membership management and site security together.
